Hi, iPhone 16!

Apple's latest iPhone 16 continues the tradition of refining what works, with faster performance, a redesigned button layout, and its signature software intelligence. This lineup is positioned competitively, with the standard model starting at $799.

But what truly matters here? For mobile creators, photographers, and filmmakers, the real question is: How does the camera stack up? In short, it's great. And when paired with our mobile lenses and Quick Lock filters, it becomes an even more powerful tool for on-the-go content creation. Check out our entire lineup of iPhone 16 accessories to elevate your photos and videos.

That said, the leap from the iPhone 15 Pro isn’t monumental. Yes, there are camera upgrades and a few new features, but the ProRes capabilities remain largely the same as last year’s model.

Still, if you're looking to upgrade, this is an exciting year to do so. Let’s dive into the details.

Camera Overview

Shoot 4K 120fps videos, and Camera Button works with third-party apps.

Apple continues to push the boundaries of what your everyday pocket camera can do. Featuring a 48MP Fusion camera that effectively gives you two optical-quality lenses in one, this system is ideally built for both the everyday snapper and the creative professional. Combined with a significant boost in battery life and the power of the A18 chip, the camera offers a robust shooting experience that continues to be faster and more productive.

The standout here is the upgraded 48-megapixel camera, which lets you capture stunningly detailed shots — even in low light, no matter the subject. But that’s just the beginning. The iPhone 16 now supports 3D video and photo capture, allowing users to create spatial content that can be viewed with remarkable depth on Apple Vision Pro. Analog shooters might not care to use gimmicky spatial AI features, but knowing these additions exist is helpful for the more tech-forward shooters.

With the 48MP Fusion camera, you also get a 2x optical-quality telephoto option — essentially giving you two cameras in one, so you can zoom in closer and frame your shots really easily. For those who love macro photography, the new 12MP Ultra Wide camera, equipped with autofocus, lets you get up close and personal to things like plants or bugs. Plus, it brings in up to 2.6x more light, meaning sharper, clearer images even in challenging conditions.

Introducing Camera Control

Apple’s new Camera Control system is a perfect example of what happens when hardware and software work seamlessly together. It’s packed with smart features, including a tactile switch that gives you that satisfying click, and a force sensor that responds to a light touch. With a simple press, you can launch the camera, snap a photo, or start recording video in an instant—perfect for those fast-action moments that can’t wait.

The new camera preview makes framing your shots super easy, letting you adjust zoom, exposure, or depth of field with just a swipe of your finger. Plus, third-party apps like Snapchat are already lined up to integrate Camera Control, giving you even more ways to use it.

Later this year, Camera Control is set to get even smarter. Here’s what’s kind of freaky: imagaine walking past a restaurant, and with a simple click, pulling up its hours or reviews. Or maybe you spot a plant and want to know its genus — Camera Control can do that in a near instant. It’ll even help you add events from flyers to your calendar or quickly find where to buy something you’ve just seen. And if you need a little extra help, it can connect to third-party tools like Google or ChatGPT to give you wicked-fast answers on the spot.

While awesome as this sounds, I’m curious how accurate the information will be when it's released. Nonetheless, this form of advanced software and hardware intelligence was bound to be on the horizon at some point; I’m surprised it even took this long.

Action Button

The latest Action button on the iPhone 16 is a game-changer, bringing a feature that was once only on the Pro models to everyone. It's conveniently located where the mute switch used to be, but now, it's much more than a simple toggle. What’s cool about the Action button is how customizable it is. So whether you want to quickly jump into the camera, silence notifications, or launch your favorite app — this button is a concise shortcut to your most-used features, right at the tip of your thumb.

Photographic Styles

I’ll admit, I haven’t used this feature enough in the past — but that’s about to change. The latest generation of Photographic Styles on the iPhone 16 lets creators take their photos to the next level by adjusting colors, highlights, and shadows in real time. What’s even better is that these styles are designed with a deeper understanding of skin tones, giving you more control over how you appear in your shots. Unlike typical filters that blanket the whole image with one look, Photographic Styles allow for more precise edits by targeting specific colors in the scene. And with a broader range of styles, you have even more creative freedom to craft the perfect aesthetic. So, the flexibility here is impressive, whether you apply them during the live preview, after the photo is taken, or change your mind and reverse them later.

For Video

The iPhone 16 Pro seriously raises the bar for mobile filmmakers. With 4K at 120 fps and Dolby Vision, this is the highest resolution and frame rate combo Apple’s ever offered. Now powered by the new 48MP Fusion camera and the A18 Pro chip, you can capture cinematic, smooth footage in standard video mode or slow things down for those epic slo-mo shots.

What’s really cool is the new flexibility in editing. After you’ve captured your footage, you can adjust the playback speed directly in the revamped Photos app. Plus, you can try the new half-speed option. Or go cinematic by slowing it down to 24 fps. The choice is yours.

Audio has also stepped up in a big way. With four studio-quality mics, you’re getting crisp, clear sound and new wind noise reduction that makes a real difference in outdoor recording. I’ll be curious to see how this stands against an external mic, but still really cool for casual shots at the beach where the wind is relentless.

For an even more immersive experience, there’s Spatial Audio capture, especially if you’re listening back with your AirPods; it’s like being there in the moment, all over again.

This includes super-capable ProRes and LOG recording for mobile video, which we really loved about the iPhone 15 Pro model.

Why is the A18 Chip a Big Deal for Mobile Creators?

At the heart of the iPhone 16 is the brand-new A18 chip, a serious upgrade. Apple’s claiming it’s up to 30% faster than last year’s iPhone 15, which means smoother performance across the board — whether you’re editing videos, playing graphics-heavy games, or simply multitasking with hundreds of tabs open that you forget to close (guilty!). What makes the A18 even more exciting is how it powers Apple’s growing suite of AI features, which power a more perforative camera and shooting experience.

Apple Intelligence runs both on your device, thanks to the power of the A18, and in the cloud using Apple’s Private iCloud. So, what does this mean for mobile creators? Basically, more innovative and more responsive features right at your fingertips.

Plus, there's additions like Genmoji, which lets you create detailed, dynamic emojis, or Image Playgrounds for generating unique images on the fly. Siri’s getting an upgrade, too, with better notifications and more intuitive responses. It's pretty cool if you’re active on social media as a content creator and want to really customize your copywriting processes or productivity.

The iPhone 16 also boasts a redesigned logic board for better thermal efficiency, which helps with sustained performance — basically, your phone won’t heat up as much under heavy use. Apple says the A18 is critical to longer battery life, which is a massive plus for those who will always be shooting with either camera (especially video).

Apple’s rolling out these AI features gradually, starting with U.S. English and expanding to more dialects and languages over the coming months. So, it’s only going to get smarter as time goes on.
