Who Is the Osmo 7 For?
If you’re a mobile filmmaker seeking a streamlined, user-friendly, and downright fun way to capture stable footage, the Osmo 7 has your name on it. With its trusty 3-axis stabilization, you can easily attach lightweight extras like the Moment QuickLock VND filter or a 1.55x anamorphic lens. Better yet, the built-in audio transmission on the 7P model pairs perfectly with the DJI Mic Mini.
The Gimbal
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7 is going to be hard to beat. It’s a massive leap forward from DJI’s previous Osmo Mobile 6, offering up to 10 hours of battery life (thanks to 3,350 mAh batteries), which is over 50% more than the OM6. This means you can film for hours without worrying that your rig will power down halfway through the action. Plus, when it’s not in use, you can plug your phone in via USB-C and even use it as a power bank.
DJI also includes “one-tag” editing in their “easy tutorials” suite in the DJI Mimo App for quick in-camera edits. I usually prefer to make all my trimming and color adjustments in DaVinci Resolve, though; I run a YouTube channel and work for a commercial production company, so I like to keep my workflow consistent, but the option for simple, on-the-spot editing is a nice touch.
Between the Standard Osmo 7 and the Osmo 7P, the 7P packs a few extra perks: an integrated extension rod, improved AI-assisted tracking, and the same rock-solid three-axis stabilization. Once you attach the multifunctional module, you can easily switch between the front and rear cameras, keeping your subject both well-lit and tracked by the gimbal’s built-in AI (instead of relying on your phone’s camera). This module powers an automated tracking mechanism right on the gimbal, while its intuitive gesture controls let you manage tracking, shooting, and framing within your environment. It's so much easier than relying on your phone's tiny screen when moving around to get the shot!
Whether you pick the Standard or the Pro model, both come with a built-in light control featuring four levels of temperature and adjustment. However, the Osmo 7P includes a side wheel for more precise manual tweaks, which is nice for shooters like me who require access to finer-tuned adjustments in lower-light situations or interview settings.
Build & Quality
Listen, nobody likes flimsily-feeling gear. Fortunately, DJI (alongside brands like Moment) keeps setting the bar high for premium, mid-weight, compact gear that can travel with you in any bag. The Osmo 7’s rod feels sturdy enough that I don’t hesitate to dangle my iPhone 15 Pro out the car window for that perfect shot, which happens more often than I can admit. With so many upgraded features, you’d hope for great build quality, and the Osmo 7 delivers no cheap-plastic vibes.
The battery life is also insane. You can use the gimbal as a power bank to charge your phone via its USB-C port when you're not filming.
Also, I cannot express how great the multifunctional module is: you can plug your phone into the gimbal while hooking a separate power bank to the gimbal’s USB-C port, extending battery life indefinitely (or at least until your power bank runs dry). That’s a lifesaver for marathon shooting days!
